ART BREAK #12 — Brooklyn Lunch
Embroiderer and multimedia artist Chandelle “Seabeard” Carter created this stunning piece that captures the beauty of food, culture and familial roots interlaced in a way that simultaneously tells a story and makes us hungry.
Chandelle is a Crown Heights-based artist whose work is heavily influenced by pop culture and the black experience. As a first-generation child born to Jamaican immigrants, it was important for her to depict things that she experienced in her life. This embroidered piece titled “Brooklyn Lunch” represents the amalgamation of urban Brooklyn living and Caribbean roots.
Follow her Instagram for commissions and to check out her one-of-a-kind embroidered art, sculptures, pyrography, Christmas ornaments and other works.

Art Break is an ongoing initiative that encourages us all to take a break and appreciate art in our day-to-day lives. We invite local artists to submit a piece that reflects their Brooklyn experience, while providing them with a break in the form of mini grants to help them pursue their passion.
