This fall’s Art Break spotlights a calming, happy drawing capturing the charm of Brooklyn life. We really love the view inside each window and the small details like a mailbox with outgoing mail, the broken bodega umbrellas we know too well, overflowing trashcans and flowers springing from sidewalk cracks.
We have multi-talented, Brooklyn-based artist Marji Shemanski to thank.
A clearly talented illustrator, Mariji is also a musician, violin teacher and lyricist. From everyday moments like subway rides and jury duty, to the unique beauty of cityscapes and still life, her art is a slice of the NYC experience we all share.
Explore her Instagram, listen to her music on Bandcamp or catch a performance on YouTube.
Art Break is an ongoing initiative that encourages us all to take a break and appreciate art in our day-to-day lives. We invite local artists to submit a piece that reflects their Brooklyn experience, while providing them with a break in the form of mini grants to help them pursue their passion.
Still haven’t gotten your art fill? Check out some of our previous Brooklyn artist features including Simmi Singh and CJ Robinson.
