Gowanus

Gowanus is defined by its industrial roots, tree-lined streets, Manhattan skyline views, artists’ studios, colorful murals, community spirit and rapidly evolving streetscapes. Along the neighborhood’s namesake canal—a designated Superfund Site—converted warehouses, modern condos and independent businesses coexist in an ever-changing landscape.
Bordered by Park Slope and Carroll Gardens, Gowanus warehouses have given way to loft apartments, boutique hotels and new eateries along 3rd Avenue. In fact, Brooklyn’s first Whole Foods opened its doors on the corner of 3rd Street and 3rd Avenue in 2013.
Locals and visitors alike flock to hot spots such as Thomas Greene Playground and pool, Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club, The Bell House, ShapeShifter Lab, climbing gyms and craft breweries.
The Gowanus Canal Conservancy champions sustainability in the area, leading volunteer efforts, green infrastructure projects, and environmental education centered around the canal’s future.
With multiple nearby subway lines and Atlantic Terminal just minutes away, Gowanus offers both an urban edge and access to the rest of Brooklyn and beyond.
