Perched above the East River, minutes from Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn Heights is a landmarked neighborhood celebrated for its waterfront views, leafy green spaces, cobblestone side streets and rich architectural mix—from historic brownstones and carriage houses to charming wood-framed homes, lavish mansions and stately pre-war apartment buildings.

Bordered by DUMBO, Downtown Brookyln, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights (initially known as Brooklyn Village) became the first Brooklyn neighborhood following the 1833 opening of the Bridge. It’s also home to New York City’s very first designated Historic District, where preservation is a point of pride alongside a long tradition of creativity and innovation. The neighborhood’s Center for Brooklyn History (part of the Brooklyn Public Library) anchors that spirit, preserving local stories and archives.

The scenic Brooklyn Heights Promenade provides a cinematic overlook of the Manhattan skyline and harbor, while nearby Brooklyn Bridge Park stretches 1.3 miles along the waterfront with piers, playgrounds, sports courts, lawns and picnic spots.
