Prior to working at Garfield Realty, I spent over 6 years in the editorial department at Food Network. I even led food tours for friends and their children around Brooklyn for fun. There’s nothing I love more than finding new places to eat and introducing people to my favorite borough.
I used to live across the street from this adorable Boerum Hill bakery which now has a much larger Dumbo location as well. I love the buttery cupcakes and the dainty cookies with elegant names and the homemade yogurt and granola.
This high-end deli is where I cheat on the Park Slope Food Coop and my favorite ice cream parlors a lot. Owned by the couple behind Franny’s, Brooklyn’s beloved pizza joint, their sandwiches and homemade gelato are unreal. It’s certainly not the most wallet-friendly spot around, but almost everything is worth the splurge!
Most people have heard of Jacques Torres, but if you want to go off-the-beaten-path a bit and learn how chocolate is made from bean to bar, check out Cacao Prieto in Red Hook and Mast Brothers in Williamsburg. Both places offer tours, but be sure to call ahead to reserve a spot. If you happen to like whiskey as well, you’re in luck since Cacao Prieto makes and serves that as well.
In the summertime, I like to take my boys to the pop-up pool at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Nothing beats cooling off with a swim on a hot summer day while enjoying a stunning view of the NYC skyline. Get there early to beat the crowds and bring a hat since there isn’t much shade.
